Reunion Time
Some scientists suggest that “Time” is an illusion and whether they are correct is debatable; but “Time” is the way we relate to the events of our lives and by which we schedule
our lives.
It is “Christmas Time” as I consider these thoughts, thoughts of happy children excited about Christmas and their parents who each year get a thrill from the Season, in part because of the joyous twinkling eyes and the laughter
of their little ones.
The world has been astounded and grieved by the recent massacre of 20 kindergarten children in Connecticut last week. Those of us who have children who have preceded us in death know that there is nothing to say, nothing
to be done, except that friends be there, just to be present, and that is a shallow comfort at best.
Grief digs its own path and it digs deeply. The path must be walked upon; and we would like to think that the grief soon goes away. That
is not the experience of any one known to me. Yes, in time we learn to laugh again, and we learn to embrace grief in a strange way and to walk with grief into the future.
For some of us it takes a long time to walk out of the gray nothingness,
and I was one of those; however, in a dream I was given instructions that has provided me a tool by which I may refocus the facts, and find an excitement for future time. The dream was totally wordless, but it was fully understood:
It was dusk dark.
I wandered alone in a wooded area. There was a gentleman dressed in white who approached me. The door of the white car, that apparently been driven by me to that place, was opened by the man. He motioned for me to get into the car and
I did. He closed the door for me and went to the back of the car; he opened the hatchback and draped a large piece of black velvet material over the opened hatchback, then he closed it allowing the closure to hold the velvet cloth in place. He
returned to the driver’s side of the car and with his hand he motioned me ahead.
The message was that I should not look back, but rather to look in front of me. Thoughts of many kinds began to come and I realized that nothing of yesterday
is in today, nothing of the good, and nothing of the bad. The good times cannot be recaptured to relive them, and neither can I recapture the bad times to reconstruct them. “Time” is like that; it holds our lives but gives us no reprieves.
Continued reflections on the instruction that was given to me also provided a truth we seldom consider. Those lost from our today are in our future! My sons are not lost to me forever. I will see them again; they wait for me in peace,
beauty, and great happiness, without an awareness of “Time” as they wait.
Children do go to Heaven. Jesus died for the sins of the entire human race. It is His Gift, and it is only those who reject His gift of Salvation
that will not live where He lives. Children have not rejected Him.
As our children are growing into choice making ages, it is imperative that we parents choose God’s Way and that we teach our children to do likewise. It may not seem
relevant in our present “Time,” but the “Time” will come when it will mean more to us than we can now imagine. It will mean our confidence of reunion.
Separation is temporary. Reunion is forever!
